Dea introduces Sea Island, the most precious cotton in the world. West Indian Sea Island was cotton was discovered in the early XVIII century in the British West Indies. Its production is infinitesimal compared to the world's total of long staple cotton (about 0.0006%), and is concentrated in the Caribbean Islands of the British West Indies (mainly Barbados, Antigua and Jamaica). Yearly, the world's cotton production is approximately 110 million bales. 2 million of which are extra-long staple cotton. The total annual production of Sea Island Cotton is about 130 bales. The very high quality and production scarcity make this cotton a precious and very exclusive raw material.
Sea Island cotton can be distinguished from all ther types of cotton thanks to the unique characteristics: the considerable length of the staple, high resistance, high uniformity percentage, and incomparable lustre. The WISICA (West Indian Sea Island Cotton Assocation) organisation inspects every kilo of cotton produced locally and issues a certificate of authenticity for the Sea Island brand yarn, guaranteering its pureness.
The perfect structure of the yarn, attention to quality and traceability for every production process phase, guarantee that the articles manufactured with Sea Island fabrics can be certified with an exclusive hologram that certifies its origin and quality.
